Clients ask me all the time, “How Do I Get More People to Like Our Facebook Page?”
When someone emailed me this question recently, I realized it was time to answer that question in a blog post.
So, here goes.
Yes, You Can Invite People
You can invite people on Facebook to “like” your Page and email your customers but know there’s a LOT more that goes into it.
For one, people are inundated with Facebook “like” requests so you really have to ask yourself WHY people would like your page.
What Are You Sharing?
What valuable information are you giving them? Are you consistent with your posts? Or, are you pushing out sales messages all the time?
Or, maybe you’re not posting any updates at all.
Are You Sharing?
You have to be “at the party” if you’re going to use Facebook successfully in your marketing – 3-5 times a week is minimum for posting.
And, look at the type of content you’re offering. Plan on a mix of updates –photos, status updates and interesting links will get people involved.
How much of what you’re posting is content from other people? The very nature of Facebook is a sharing environment. So, make sure you’re posting content from others on a regular basis.
If you’re sharing a good mix of content and you’re not getting many “likes”, you have a couple of choices.
You can buy Facebook ads to direct more people to your Page–they’re highly targeted and you can spend as little as $3 or $5 a day.
Or, you can be patient—it does take time to build organic “likes” and if you only have a couple hundred people it’s going to take awhile. That’s just the reality.
If you haven’t already done so, I recommend creating a plan for your Page. What types of things will you post, when and who will do it? This is called creating a content calendar and it helps streamline the process,
Also, what other businesses will you “like” and how often will you seek out new ones? “Like” their comments and shares, show up regularly.
When you focus on building a community, that’s when you’ll have the most success. Never forget the “social” in social media. It’s all about people.
