What do you think of when you think of McDonald’s?
Do you think “ooh, gross!” or is it a reliable source of Happy Meals for your children? Whatever your thoughts, you probably don’t think of it as a lovely dining experience with big, juicy hamburgers.
For better or worse, there are no surprises at McDonald’s.
The hamburgers are the same in L.A. as they are in Cincinnati. You can expect to order at a counter or a drive thru and fairly clean bathrooms.
You don’t expect tablecloths, candles and waiter service.
McDonalds has built a brand. They’ve been building that brand since 1940’s so they have a lot of years of practice.
They didn’t throw open their doors and serve a billion people in the first month. Instead, they started as a small roadside eatery.
When you start or re-start your business, you aren’t likely to be booked solid within the first 6 weeks just as McDonald’s wasn’t a household name.
There is No Such Thing as Drive Thru Success
Instant clients, instant lists, and instant profits are not coming your way just because you print up some business cards and get a website.
It’s a fantasy perpetuated by our culture with stories of “overnight’ successes and “push button money”. However, as an intelligent person, you know that’s not real.
I’m going to take a wild guess that your brand isn’t as recognizable as the Golden Arches. Maybe you haven’t even really figured out your “brand” yet. That doesn’t matter. If you’re going to be in business, you have to have customers and to have customers, they have to trust that you’re going to solve their problem.
People do business with people they know, like and trust. There’s no shortcut for that.
However, the good news is, social media marketing can get the word out to more people than you can knocking on doors. If your social media marketing is effectively planned and executed, you can show thousands of people how you can solve their problems.
